[News] Man charged over balcony death in Sydney

Man charged over balcony death in Sydney
October 30, 2008, 6:05 am

A 26-year-old man will appear in court on Thursday charged with murder, sexual assault and other offences after a woman fell to her death from an apartment balcony in Sydney.
The man was arrested after a police manhunt.
Chinese student (Elva) Liao Wei, 18, was one of four Asian students who endured horrendous sexual assaults for up to an hour at the hands of a knife-wielding predator before she and her boyfriend fell from the balcony in inner city Waterloo about 1.40pm (AEDT) on Sunday.
Her boyfriend, Korean Tae Wook "Chris" Han, 19, remains in hospital with serious spinal injuries from which police say he may never recover following the fall from the third floor of the apartment complex in Hunter Street.
About 8.20pm on Wednesday, after an extensive manhunt, police investigators arrested a 26-year-old man in Castlereagh Lane, Redfern and he was charged with murder and 21 other offences, police said.
They included recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated sexual assault, inflicting bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse, assault with act of indecency, aggravated break and enter, robbery armed with offensive weapon, detain persons with intent to sexual gratification and inciting others to commit acts of indecency.
The man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court on Thursday.
His arrest came after detectives on Wednesday released CCTV footage of a man wanted over the home invasion and assaults, as a large squad of police worked on the murder investigation.

Today hot issue is this News. I think this situation didn't present to Korean, but it will happen soon. So I just afraid somebody blame them with no reason. And I saw their picture on this news site, but it disappeared. I think someone (might be their family) complained to them.

[News] Good and bad takeaway foods !!

Good and bad takeaway foods

Reporter: Georgia Main
Broadcast Date: October 27, 2008

The average family spends 15 per cent of its food budget on takeaway, so which dishes are the healthier choice?
Australians buy takeaway up to three times a week and it shows because we spend nearly $14 million a year avoiding our kitchens.
Dietician from the Australian Healthy Food Guide, Caitlin Reid, said it is based on demand.
"There has been a lot of demand for healthier choices so they definitely have come onboard with that but it's still up to the customer to make the healthy choice," she said.
With options like Chinese, Indian, Thai and Italian, Caitlin gave her opinion on the best options.
"You want to look at something that's got a lot of colour," she said.
Thai green curry is a no-no because it is full of coconut cream.
Pad Thai is also on the no list.
"If you look at the pad Thai you can see it's all the one colour to start off with which is not a good thing, but you've got fried noodles in there and oil," she said.
"Naturally the kilojoules are going to increase a lot more."
Thai chicken with chilli and basil has 12 grams of fat, the pad Thai has more than double that, coming in at 30 grams, which is more than a Big Mac.
Indian food is renowned for heavy sauces but there are some good choices, according to Caitlin.
"The chicken tikka is definitely a better choice than the chicken korma, even down to the bread, the roti which is made with wholemeal flour is definitely a better choice than the naan bread," Caitlin said.
Chicken tikka has 9g of fat while chicken korma has a whopping 51g.
The Chinese beef and black bean is a good option, but we need to look at the serving size.
Caitlin suggests serving the meal on a plate, rather that eating it out of the container.
"If you ate it out of the container you wouldn't stop to think how much you are eating," she said.
But steer away from sweet and sour pork.
The beef and black bean had 9g of fat, while sweet and sour pork and fried rice had 60g.
It is no surprise that it is better to choose a tomato-based pasta rather than a creamy carbonara.
"The saturated fat and total fat of that dish is going to be quite high so you're looking at twice the kilojoules in a creamy-based pasta compared to a tomato based pasta," Caitlin said.
Pasta napolitana came in at 12g, the carbonara at 32g of fat.
"It's definitely possible to eat healthy takeaway, you just need to have a think about what you are choosing when ordering it."

Second story, get a job !! +0+

4 weeks later since I first came to Australia, I heard from Au agency about how's going our job apply situation.
And, result was really awful cause just one people confirmed. That was some radio station. They just wanted to have a boy, so even I didn't have a chance to show them about me.
I thought it's really unfair because they thought boy is better than girl to work about broadcasting.
Au agency said, I have to go to Korean tv station cause nobody want to get me and Jolie (roommate).
However, I really hated to go to Korean tv station cause if I go there, I was sure, I won't use English.
I was upset and I complained to agency like you should try to find the job more than now.
And I said, if I have to go to Korean tv station, I will go back to Korea cause I'm not here for that. Finally, they and Korea agency moved for me.
I really don't understand till now, why they didn't find hardly before I said something. Sometimes, I had a argument with Korean agency because they cared about us like children. And I believe, if I just followed what they gave me that maybe I couldn't get anything.
I'm going to say, if you go to internship you should show agency what you want and what you don't want exactly.

Anyway, I had three chances to have an interview.
First one was community radio station. As I remember, there was 2CCR.
Manager was really good cause he was so passionate to teach students.
I learned radio production, so I was interested in working that, but work place was really far from my house. It might take over 1hr from my house, so I decided to find another jobs instead of that, even I got phone call from manager. I gave that chance to other friends.
Second one was advertisement company.
Actually, I didn't expect much things because I realized where I am, and what is real situation.
So, I didn't suit up. Just I wore casual cloth.
However, yeah, if you are thinking something, that's right.
There was really good company cause I can use my skill what I have, but they were ready to shoot advertising. And, as you know, my English is not enough to work at real situation.
So they didn't pick me to work together.
They said, I studied about movie more than advertising, so it might be wrong place for her.
I know, I didn't prepare enough to get into there, so it was fair.
Finally, I got (maybe) last chance to have an interview.
There was Shifted Pixels, which is my working place now.
I arrived early cause I really want to get a job.
[You know, I got the heck situation from agency cause I was not easy person to say yes.
Tell you later.. anyway!]
I suited up, and relax to have an interview.
Show time is coming.. Two people came up for interview.
They were really nice, but I was afraid because my English skill was decreasing.
[Why? I don't know ... :( ]
I passed bloody time, but they wanted to see my profile.
I didn't have a profile in Au cause I didn't expect, I will have this sort of interview.
And also, agency didn't know that, too.
Anyway, I tried to collect what I did, but that was not enough.
However, god bless me. I got a chance to have an experience.
So I'm working here, Shifted Pixels now!
I tried to be a passionate person, so I sent e-mail like, I will be hard worker something like that.
However, I'm suspecting me, are you doing really hard ?
I have to be a hard worker because they believed me and pick me.
That is really thankful and I can feel what is real Aussie's life.
It will be awesome experience for me.
:)

I don't know you feel interested about my story..

Ok, I want to give you story that how agency rude to me before I have a job.
At first, they didn't try the best way to find a job for me. When I complained them, they moved.
And they told me, how can you behaved like that, you shouldn't say no, if we gave you job.
It doesn't matter whatever was it. I was upset with them.
And higher level manager phoned me, and he said, if you do like that more, I have a no choice, I have to get you back to Korea. Oh, he threatened me ! However, I didn't care about that.
It's important time for me. It's just only time to have a work experience to me.
So I was strong, I said, I don't care and I will follow my mind.
Anyway, after I got a place to do internship, they changed their behavior.
I can't say they are so nice, but it's ok. If I must talk with them, I can do that, but if I can escape from them, I don't want to meet them ever again !

Ops, I think I'm going into that felt again, so I need to calm down.
:)

Anyway, it's my story about interview !
Next story will be about working life. :)

Cheers ~

First story, Hi, AU and Language shool life @0@

I arrived to Sydney on Aug 24. After got off the airplane, one of the korean diver took me to homestay house. It's my first time to live with homestay family, so I was excited !
Now I'm living at ' South Strathfield' with the greatest family :)

Anyway, I and Jolie (My roommate. She is my collegue, too.) went out to get mobile phones, and information about Australia.
[Actually, I already asked to agency, which mobile phone and bank are popular in Au.]
We took a bus (Homestay mum told us how to get to city :*), and I was really surprised cause I paid $4 Au dallars.
It was shocking enough because in Korea, I need to pay less than $1 to take a bus.
We got off right place (lucky :)) and started to walked around to found anythings.
So, I got optus's pre-paid mobile phone ($79) , and later I opened account at Commonwealth bank.
[ I met Korean assistant at the bank which is near Central station commonwealth bank. So lucky because bank business is one of the difficult part for international students !!!]

On Aug 25, Mon. I started to Access Language School and took a level test at first day.
Test was not simple. I took a grammar, reading, and speaking, listening test.
Especailly, I had interview with head of teacher, and that was speaking and listening test.
It was fun and brilliant way to test people. And I got intermediate class.
Class was fine, but over half % classmates were Korean.
[I didn't know too much Korean are living in Sydney.. :( ]
Anyway, I got so much fun in the class cause I made new friends.
I always think that language school is not just for learning English, it could be place to meet people who are from many different nationalities.
And it doesn't matter how much I can speak English.
Friends can understand what they want each others.

After 1 week, unfortunately, I took a test again because that was policy of school.
[Every first week, students have to take a level test and change or stay class.]
It took a whole week to correct answer and decided go up or stay class.
I don't know why they waste time like that, but anyway I went to Watson's bay for excursion.
That was really cool cause that time was chance to know each others.
Finally, I got upper intermediate class. Oh, that was awesome !

Actually, I just got high mark with listening part. Grammar part was really sucks and another parts were just average line, but I was not shy in the class and I tried to speak English in cthe class, and teacher got that, and I took a special interview with upper class teacher and finally my level was going up.

Upper class was little difficult because words were different with lower class.
However, that was really fun challenging and so much fun.
I'm going to say, if you are not scare to study English with friends who can speak English better than you, you should try that.
You can learn from your friends and also you can improve your English skill more faster.

I joined Access Language school just 4 weeks, but I had good time. All staffs are really kind as family, and I made new friends who come from Japan, China, Colombia, Spain, Israel, Turkey, and finally Korea!Teachers were really nice and gentle to students, and courses were not boring. [It's depends on who will be your teacher, but I was lucky :)]At the beginning, I really hated to go to language school because just speak English with similar language level friends and played games, but it helped me a lot. I learned English in America, and I didn't know Australian English is different with it. So I needed time to adapted with Australian English, and I got that time when I was in the class. And also, I visited some places cause I had much time to go around.[I'm going to show you some great place later :) Coming soon !!! ]

Sometimes, I missed this time, but I really love the present time either.
So just I will remember long long time.
I really enjoyed short school life and also I adapted to Australia!!!

PS. I got gorgeous cetification, and grade record. I will show you soon ! :)
PS2. Wow I got awesome stuff ! It's Access language centre vedio and I appear here !Find me ! :)

Zero stroy, leave Korea !!!

When I was in Illinois, USA [I was exchange student :)], I got text msg from Korea.
Definitly, from my univ. Omg, I got chance to go to abroad internship !
Even I just need to pay for my lunch cause univ and gov will provide everything without that ! I was so excited to heard that, and why not I decided to go to Australia !

However, that was so easy way because I have to attend several orientations and go to English academy.
Yeah, I can't speak English very well, but agency gave me academy that not fit for me. I needed to practice speaking English, but that was preparing TOEIC course and even though that was for biginner.
(Hey, I've been US a year to learned English.. I'm not good at English, but not beginner !!)
I complained that, yet agency said you are kind of beginner so just attend school.
I can tell you truth.. I just attended once. HaHa.. [Am I cool? xp] I thought that will not help me, so I studied alone.
Anyway, I went to oreientation twice, and something was really usuful information, but mostly they just stole my time, I think.
Acency should show, and tell me what is true and real situation, but they talked a lot of things and finally, that made me confused.

(Final orientation just day before departured. Look at people's face !!)

Wow, finally on,Aug 23, sat.
I left Korea, my beautiful country **
I and friends who came together to Australia, took a pictures.
It was forced by agency !! hehe

## Happening in Sydney airport !
When I wrote customs form, I checked I don't have any food, but I had.
And finally, I got into trouble. Security person got me !
I brought noodle, and they thought that was seed.
They just warned me, and nothing more, but I think wrote true is better:(

It was my story before I came to Australia, and next one will be about Australia life.
Thanks : )

Get it start !! : )
